ABOUT TOM FERRIS
Tom was born and raised in New York City in 1959, where
he studied visual and liberal arts at the City University of New
York, before heading west in 1979. After working, backpacking,
and living in Yellowstone National Park for several years, Tom
settled in Bozeman, Montana to live and study photography more
seriously. He received his B. A. in Photography from the School
of Arts and Architecture, Montana State University, in 1994.
Since building his darkroom and studio in 1995, Tom has worked
as an archival photographer for the Montana Historical Society.
He runs his own small studio, and continues to pursue his own
vision of the landscape in and around Yellowstone National Park,
and in his travels.
Tom's work is in many private collections in the United States
and overseas, and has been collected by the Ministry of Culture
in France, and the Shimada Museum in Japan.
....
" Tom Ferris' photographs are quiet, artful meditations,
and like the man, calm and depth lives in his pictures. Ferris'
talent lies not only in the eloquence of his eye, but in the ability
to find beauty everywhere, be it sky or river, rock wall or a
deserted cafe in Ireland. He approaches the world with wonder
and hope, and that is his secret which, thankfully, he share with
the viewer."

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHS
All of the photographs presented on this website are printed on
the finest gelatin silver fiber based papers, and archivally processed.
All prints are selenium toned for image permanence and very slight
color change. They are then mounted and over matted with archival
four ply matt board.
The images in the Regional Landscape
portfolios were made with a Hassleblad 21/4" x 21/4" camera, with
the exception of those in the Horse/Ranch section, (in rectangular
format) which are made with 35mm Canon cameras.
The images from Ireland and
Mexico were made with a Hassleblad X-Pan camera, which produces
negatives in a panoramic format, and can also convert to traditional
35mm format.
